The last Pillar of Action is Community Involvement. Currently, the Sheriff's Office has little to no community involvement. One of my biggest irritations is asking where is the Sheriff's Office when the Police Department is at nearly all events. When I'm elected, not only do I have solutions for the Sheriff's Office, but I have equally as many solutions for the community as well. The community is just as important, if not more important than the activities of the Sheriff's Office. I mentioned once before that the community is comprised of members of the Sheriff's Office, inmates incarcerated at the Jail, and all other citizens of Clarke County. The solutions to community involvement are as follows:

  • Create a youth mentorship program.

  • Create a program for parents to alert them when their teen drivers get pulled over by law enforcement.

  • Provide vehicle safety inspections to ensure all lights are operating properly.

  • Have the Sheriff's Office Honor Guard become more active with the JROTC programs.

  • Sponsor safety programs related to proper disposal of prescription drugs and weapons.

  • Provide security risk assessments of local businesses and residential homes.

  • Partner with local area businesses that deal with homelessness.

  • Sponsor a high school youth to the FBI-LEEDA Youth Leadership Program for those interested in law enforcement and/or leadership skills.

  • Sponsor a community barbeque and family fun event at least annually.

  • Add additional deputies to the Field Section with sole responsibility of patrolling the Greenways during daylight hours.

  • Strengthen the partnership with ACCPD and UGAPD.
